1057 is the number of emails I have in my email inbox today after having gone away for a little over 3 days. About 90% of them are from YouTube.

So, as always, I will read them all but forgive me if I don't reply to all (or even many) of your comments since I have almost 1000 to go through.

Anyway, had a good holiday, I'll make a more interesting post later.

Episode 15 ETA

Hey guys, had a minor hickup, some of my airplane footage ran away so I had to re-record it.

Anyway, should have the episode done in an hour or two.

Episode 15 update

Hey, wouldn't it be hilarious if I didn't release Episode 15? Yeah, I thought you'd agree with me. Ok, sounds like a plan.

....heh, alright, Episode 15 it is. Just wanted to let you guys know that all the dialog has been recorded, only thing left to do is edit everything together. Should have it done sometime late tomorrow (or very, very early x-mas eve). I'll make a post here with a more precise time once I know more.

P.S. Episode 1 is about 2,000 views from hitting 100,000!! Holy fudge muffins that's awesome!

Avatar movie = AWESOME

Okay, so I just got out of the movie Avatar and, without giving this out lightly, it is the best movie I've ever seen. Seriously, I think it's impossible to not like this movie. I'm sure some people won't like it as much as I do but, damn, this movie is awesome in the literal meaning of that word.

After I got out I would have turned right around and went back in for the next show if it wasn't sold out and if I had brought my car and wasn't riding with my family. Totally going to see it again tomorrow.

Seriously, see it, preferably in 3D. This is one movie I don't think anyone will want to miss, I doubt anyone will like it as much as I do but seeing as the theater I was in had a standing ovation at the end, you'll probably like it.

Audition Winners and Episode 15 ETA

Alright! Awesome auditions guys, I had TONS of people submit auditions and they were all great, I'm totally serious in saying that it was very hard to narrow it down to three people. Yes, three people. You see, I had someone lined up to do douchbag but he dropped out at the last minute. So without further adieu, the winners;

Douchbag will be played by: corky064
the Fighter Pilot will be played by: danielcdawson
and the military ATC will be played by: emperorpsymon

Congratulations everyone! This has been so much fun. Don't worry if you didn't get in, I have plans for something shortly after new years in which everyone can have part in the video that wants one.

The other thing I wanted to announce is that Barney's Mind - Episode 15 is mere days away. I have the script done, the filming is being finished today (took me forever to get the FSX stuff all setup) and 1/3 of the dialog is done. So, all that remains is some of my dialog and the guest actor's dialogs and the editing and it'll be done!

Latest it will be out is the 24th but I hope to have it out a few days before that. This video is more or less my decemberween present to everyone as well as my present for you guys getting episode 1 up to 100,000 views! (zomg)

Anyway, thanks for all your support guys, I hope you enjoy this episode a lot.

Want to be on Barney's Mind?

SO! Here's your big chance to help me out.

I have a pretty big part and a pretty small part that I need some voice acting done for. I have a few people locally who could help me do it but I figure it will be a lot more fun for two of you guys (or gals) to do it.

So, here's the deal. I need a person for a fighter pilot and a person to play an air force air traffic control person. You don't need a good mic for this since you're supposedly talking over a radio and I'm going to make your voice a little crackly anyway.

To apply, message me here, on YouTube, or on steam with links to a sound file with your audition. I'll pick the best one and we'll go from there.

Audition details:

First off, you're supposed to be a mature adult person so if you're 15 and under and sound like you're 15 and under don't bother applying.

Anyway, the audition for the fighter pilot is going to be three lines, the audition for the ATC person is one line.

Fighter pilot: Air Force Wing ATC, this is Echo Victor Niner One, the target is rapidly loosing altitude and changing course, I think they’re running, request permission to engage.

Fighter pilot: [sternly] Unidentified aircraft, we are currently 3 miles from your position and have locked weapons, this is your final warning, comply or you will be destroyed!

Fighter Pilot: [yelling] MAYDAY! E-V-NINER ONE GOING DOWN! MAYDAY!

ATC: Echo Victor Niner One, you are authorized to engage at your discretion.

The winner will be picked whenever I feel I have someone good enough (and I will post on here when I have someone) and will win a preview of the episode, their name in the credits, and a chance to read the full script (if they want too, or I can cut it down so the dialog stays a surprise). If I can't find someone good enough I'll just go with my local friends.

Good luck!

P.S. Holy crap, I just finished putting the final touches on the script and it's 13 pages long. Gah, writing what is essentially 4 episodes is a lot of work! But, that's the hard part and it's all done. Now comes the easy recording part. YAR!

P.P.S. Don't worry if you have an accent or don't sound American or something silly like that. Oh and feel free to apply for both parts.

ring ring ring ring

banana phone!

...nevermind, I'm pretending I'm not working late and I don't have to finish this design so I can leave.

In other news, script will be done tonight, footage probably fairly soon, dialog fairly soon after that. So I'd say about 2 weeks at most till episode 15 (which is now looking like it might have grown to be 40 minutes long).

P.S. Strangely I've been getting a lot more negative comments on Barney's Mind than usual. Meh, whatever, it doesn't really bother me, more just weird. Yes, I know that my original episodes are crap. Yes, I know that I'm not as good as Ross Scott. Yes, I know that there's plenty of things I could have done better.

Whatever, I'm still learning and I'm spending so much time on Episode 15 as kind of a proof of concept that I can be as good as Ross Scott. Or at least I'm going to try to be.

P.P.S. Blarg, I guess I have to get back to work.

Still here

Just want to let people know that Barney's Mind - Episode 15 is going along nicely. I almost have the script done and have 1/3 of the dialog recorded. Since I'm doing a full script the dialog will go a lot faster than usual and the video will probably not take too much time.

So, I still don't know exactly how close I am to finishing but I can guarantee it will be out before Christmas (probably well before). Aside from that, can't get much more accurate, I'll post here when I know more.

Anyway, I had a good Thanksgiving, visited my folks and helped them out, watched some movies, and did some other stuff. Finished DM'ing a Dungeon's and Dragons Campaign (I'm a nerd, shud'up :P). My car is finally fixed and inspected (like 5 months overdue, stupid car). I've been playing a lot of paintball and have been having a blast. We're going to try making a semi-scripted paintball movie for you YouTube guys so look for that in the near future.

Aside from that, not much else to report, things are going along fairly well without too much drama (but plenty of action).

So, how was your guys' holidays? Any ideas what you'll be getting for Christmas?

Felix's Mind and Stuff

First off, KrimsinYT and I both saw this new mind series called Felix's Mind using Half Life 2: Episode 1. I think it came out really well, check it out and see if you like it:

YouTube - Felix's Mind - Episode 1
YouTube - Felix's Mind - Episode 2

Great voice acting and good dialog. I hope he does more (and lets me do Barney's lines, heh).

Anyway, in other news, a new (awesome) Shepherd's Mind was released. Wow, all three series releasing episodes within a day. Totally awesome and totally not planned.

Now, the finale episode is coming up next and I'm stoked, I'm going to start working on it right away. No idea how long it will take but I hope to have it up in 2-3 weeks. This ones going to be all out as funny as I can make it. I'm going to go nuts with this one spending lots of time getting the voice acting perfect and I'm even going to be writing a full script. Also, because of some of the stuff I'm going to do I'm going to have two other people in the finale as well playing various rolls. Oh, and of course the bit with Shepherd's Mind will be in there, don't worry.

So, I think you guys will really like it. Oh, and to hold you guys over during the wait I have a few other videos I'm going to post such as another paintball video (with music this time) and some other funny stuff such as another crazy episode like episode 14? (the fake one).

Lot's of stuff to look forward too. Also, yes, after Barney's Mind I plan on making some special editions of episode 1-3 then I'm going to start two new series, one will be another mind series using Alien vs. Predator 2 (as the Marine) and the other will be a series using various video games similar to the crazy fake episode 14.

Barney's Mind - Episode 14 (parts 1 and 2) have been released:

YouTube: Barney's Mind - Episode 14 - Part 1
YouTube: Barney's Mind - Episode 14 - Part 2

I didn't think I would get part 2 done so soon but I managed to do it all tonight! Woohoo! I had anti writers block. In fact, about 2 minutes of that whole thing were recorded in one long take, it was almost too easy.

Anyway, I think this really shows how far I've come. I think this episode is great and I really hope you guys agree. NOW! Time for the final episode. It's a half hour or more episode but I don't think it will take quite as long as episode 14 since I have 1/3 already done and I (hopefully) won't be so busy.

However, I do think it will take at least 3 weeks so don't expect anything Barney's Mind related for a while ( though I'll probably have a few more paintball videos and maybe another crazy video like Episode 14?)

Anyway, enjoy.

P.S. Another awesome Freeman's Mind - Episode 18

100th post and stuff!

Just noticed this is my 100th post. Go me!

Another thing I just noticed is that the capital of Uganda is Kampala.

Another thing I noticed is that people seem to really want Episode 14 to be done. This is quite understandable since episode 13 was released well over a month ago. I must apologize for this, episode 14 has taken a lot longer than I thought it would.

I documented my weekly time usage a while back so I'm not going to bother repeating it but, suffice it to say that I've been pretty busy over the past month. However, I would have probably had episode 14 done a week ago if it wasn't for me being ass raped by work (in a good way). Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but spending 11 hours a day in a paper mill angle grinding a steel fuel oil tank so I can perform thickness tests is not exactly something that's easy. I enjoyed it I suppose but it drained my energy and I'm just now recovering.

That said, I now have some free time back and will be devoting every hour I'm not working to Barney's Mind until it's done, I promise. I feel bad that I've kept you waiting so long and again I must apologize. Oh, and about the trailers. I know that I have too many what with the fake episode, the preview, and the trailer out but honestly the fake episode was more for fun and wasn't meant to be a trailer. The preview was put up to be a trailer because I expected to have the episode done a week ago (before work killed me) and then KingBaulin made me the trailer for episode 14 and I felt it would be rude to not put it up. Anyway, yes I know that the over-trailering has made it more of a tease than anything but, whatever, it's done.

Just hang in there a little longer, almost done (though, I suppose I should say get used to it, cause after this is the finale and that's going to take quite a long time to make).

A observant fan just pointed out that I just got subscribed to by non other than the official machinima channel! Holy Batman and Robin on a iceberg this is crazy! What does this mean? Is it actually Ross Scott or is it just the machnima website people or what? So many questions.

Anyway, in other less exciting but I'm sure plenty interesting news I released the first minute of Barney's Mind - Episode 14 for you guys. I felt I wasn't getting enough e-mail from YouTube so I figured this would fix that until I release the real episode which should be fairly soon as I stayed up late last night and got over 50% of episode 14 done.

Might have some paintball videos this Sunday as I've rigged my cheap-o camera to my hopper on the gun so I can get in-game footage and such.

ummm...not much else to say. RAWR!

Waffle copter

So, things slowly calming back down. Both the paintball and the Left 4 Dead tournaments went well. I came in 2nd place in the paintball tournament and our team made it to the 2nd round in the l4d tournament (and then got curb stomped by a semi-pro l4d team).

Good times though, had lots of fun. Anyway, so I've gotten a little more work done on Episode 14 but not as much as I wanted to do by this point. I'm definitely going to get a bunch of work done tonight so I hope to have the episode at least half done by the end of the week. If I really push I may have this done early next week but no promises. Like I said earlier, this is a long episode.

Anyway, I'm probably going to release another funny episode sometime this weekend and I'll also release a section of the real episode 14 for you guys tonight.

CraZy with a capital Z!

So, episode 14...yeah...stuff.

Episode 14 (the real one) is gonna be a long one (20 minutes) as I mentioned in my last update. Consequently it's going to take me twice as long to make. However, I've recently run into some crazy.

I've suddenly gone from somewhat busy to monster muffins on a rampage busy. It still have enough time to get everything I want/need to do done, but I'm really pushing it. I've started playing regular weekend paintball so there goes almost all of Saturday and Sunday. On top of that I'm now in a semi-pro L4D tournament for the next two weeks so now I have to practice for that as much as I can (you really have to twist my arm to get me to play video games I'll tell you what :P). Our first game is Wednesday. Then there's TV, football season plus new episodes of House and Castle are eating my Mondays. So that leaves Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for my household chores and Barney's Mind.

Now, before you all panic, don't worry. I've got episode 14 about 1/4 of the way done and since I've taken a little break from it (haven't touched it in about a week) I'm brimming with Barney's Mind ideas and enthusiasm. So, I thoroughly "plan" on having it out sometime next week (even if it's Saturday night at 11:59 pm). It may take longer(or shorter) but that's when I hope/think it will come out.

This is probably good practice because after this is the finale and that's going to be a half hour long or more! Thankfully I already have about 1/4 of that done but, still, that's going to take a lot of time.

In the mean time, I've got another crazy episode saved up that I'll release soon to help out the wait (they're so fun and easy to make, totally doing a ton more when I'm done with Barney's Mind). Also, I'll release a trailer for episode 14 when I get within a few days of finishing it so that you guys don't have to keep wondering when it's going to come out.

Anyway, got a paintball tournament this Sunday and our first Left 4 Dead match tomorrow, wish me luck!

Thursday, October 1, 2009

So, I finished recording the footage for Episode 14 (the final one before the finale) and the total time came to 20 minutes. Blarg. So instead of doing two episodes I've decided to do one long two part episode for no good reason.

So, to help you guys wait here's something completely different: Barney's Mind - Not Episode 14

P.S. This was inspired by this video.
P.P.S. Yes, I know that was un-original of me and mine sucked in comparison but I don't give a crap. I was just dicking around and made this in one take and after making it thought you guys might find it funny.
P.P.P. I'm now going to go eat 20 throat lozenges...oww.

Barney's Mind - Episode 13

Yar! Here it is:

YouTube - Barney's Mind - Episode 13

Yeah, this one was a lot easier to make than Episode 12. Ummm, not much else to say. Enjoy!

Edit: Holy crap, Shephard's Mind released a few days ago and now Barney's Mind AND Freeman's Mind released almost at the same time! Crazy! Happy Mind's day I guess.

Episode 13 release date

I know I said I wouldn't do release dates but this is different. Anyway, I've gotten SOOOO much done on Barney's Mind today. I've gotten about 90% complete so I can totally guarantee* that I will finish Barney's Mind - Episode 13 tomorrow.

It's going to be a good one too.

*The MightyPirate guarantee (tm) does not protect against working late, car breakdowns, computer failures, or World War III.

Barney's Mind - Episode 13 stuff

A double feature! Barney's Mind - Episode 13 trailer and the raw footage for dialog comments. Have at it!

Barney's Mind - Episode 13 Trailer
Barney's Mind - Episode 13 Raw Footage

Now, anyone who knows the game Blue Shift will know that I'm quickly running out of game. So, I'm announcing that this will be the second to last episode before the finale (2 episodes + the finale till the end!) It's been a crazy and awesome 5 months since I started this and I've had so much fun doing it, you fans are awesome!

Anyway, Episode 13 coming in a few days. Stay tuned!

P.S. Note that at the end of this you see a section that's in the teaser, this will actually not be in the finale episode.

Holy crap batman!

So, wow, been busy that's for sure. Not to worry though, I still have plenty of time for Barney's Mind and am currently working on Episode 13 (and thankfully this one is going a LOT smoother than Episode 12).

Anyway, what have I been up too... Well, I played paintball last weekend, that was AWESOME, tons of fun. Have some good pictures if anyone wants to see it. Umm, also starting up a Dungeons and Dragons game (shut up, I'm a nerd and proud of it). Works been busy too but that's always good.

Alrighty, here's the big thing. Barney's Mind is almost over! OMG! I didn't really realize how close I was until last night when I played ahead and I'm guessing that there is about 3 episodes left until the half hour finale. Holy crap, that's crazy!

You might also notice that I'm taking longer on each episode, this is more for myself so I don't get burned out when the finale comes along and it's definitely helping on Episode 13. I only just started working on it but I'm coming on to this with a much greater desire to spend lots of time on it. Episode 12 I really wanted to do it but every time I did some work on it I would stop after only a couple hours cause I would get stuck on something and then just get burnt out.

Ok, so I'm thinking that I'll do Episode 13 and 14 and then I'll see if I have enough material left to do Episode 15 or not. I'll let you guys know when I start working hardcore on the finale with a trailer/preview of the episode (this will be different from the trailer that I have already as I already have about 1/3 of the dialog recorded for the finale so I should be able to post some bits of dialog and such from the actual finale).

Speaking of the finale, I'm so excited for this! I've saved a good part of my better ideas for the finale and I can't wait to have you guys watch it. Oh, and yes, the finale will have my side of Shephard's Mind - Episode 12 (where him and I talk through a locker).

I guess while I'm addressing frequently asked questions, after Barney's Mind I am going to do another Mind series. This one is going to be a bit different than Barney's Mind though. I'm going to be doing the Marine campaign from Alien vs. Predator 2 and, to anyone who have played that game, it's scary and gruesome. This is awesome because I personally feel that my personality will be a lot better suited for a more serious character and setting. Don't worry, it's going to be full of humor and such but it's also going to have a fair amount of serious points and scary points. I wont spoil anything but let me just say that since this is the only game to ever actually startle me and possibly even scare me I'm going to play that up as much as I can. I'm not really sure if the scary parts of the game will carry over well to someone who's just watching and not actually playing but we'll see.

Oh, and I was going to try different accents and use a voice changer to mess with my voice so it didn't sound just like Barney but, after watching the intro I've discovered that the few times the main character Harrison (aka "Frosty") talks I sound almost just like him! Don't worry, I'm going to be voicing over his lines so that people don't get confused when watching but, I guess I wont actually be doing much to his voice. Oh well, that's cool and makes things a lot easier on me (I'm not very good at other accents anyway, though I can do a pretty good southern drawl).

Anyway, sorry, didn't mean to write so much. If you've managed to read it all the way through then give yourself a gold star (or at least a doughnut, that's what I'm having right now). I'm going to get back to work right now, caio.

P.S. Whoever is the thundercats in the fantasy football league you better manage your team man, it doesn't even have an active kicker on it.

P.P.S. Not that it matters, I'm going to crush you anyway :P

P.P.P.S. Anyone else going to try out Monopoly: City Streets (free monopoly game using google maps)? I am, looks awesome.

Hey! Episode 12, woot!

YouTube - Barney's Mind - Episode 12

Phew! Finally. That took forever. Partly because I was lazy and party because I kept getting stuck.

Yeah, this episode just wasn't as good as some of my others and not for lack of trying. Just couldn't seem to get it on this one. Oh well, it's still pretty good but I just seemed to not be able to get that spark of inspiration on this one. Eh, next one will be better, and hopefully done sooner.

Not much else happening. Oh, those people who did the fantasy football thing, could you guys list who you are in the comments, we're just trying to figure out who's who. (so we can't taunt people later :P)

Fantasy football and update

So sorry it's been taking so long, I've been so busy and so lazy. I need to fix my car, about every dish I own is sitting in the sink to be washed... you get the idea. I dunno, I guess I've just needed a break from my usual really busy self.

Anyway, I'm pulling out of it and have gotten about 40% of Episode 12 done. Not sure yet when I'll have it done but soon, I promise.

Another thing, anyone who wanted (or wants) to play fantasy football (American football) with my and my counter-strike clan feel free to join us. We're doing it on, you can go to this link for it: Yahoo Fantasy Football

Once there, click on "join a team" at the top. You will need a yahoo account for this but that's easy to setup. Once logged in click "join custom" and enter the following league ID and password:

League ID: 843121
Password: cds

From there you can create a team, do stuff, and wait for the draft which will be a live draft on Sunday, September 6th at 6 PM EDT.

Now, if you have NO idea what fantasy football is it's pretty simple. Basically you pick your favorite football stars in the draft (unless someone else picks them first) then as the season progresses you score points whenever your players do good (almost as if they were all on one team). You have to manage your team throughout the year, substituting players that are doing good for players that are doing bad, substituting uninjured players for injured ones, etc. Think of it as kind of a RPG for football. The best part about it in my mind is that you can now watch football games and not only cheer on your favorite teams but also your own team and players.

If you want to do it but have no idea what you're doing (like me) then I suggest you browse over to this site: and that should get you started.

P.S. A thousand curses on anyone who steals my favorite players from me.

Monday, August 31, 2009

So, I've had a ton of peoples steam and Wii names that people sent to me and I've been so lazy about adding them. Anyway, long story short, I accidentally deleted them all... whoops, my bad.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Fantasy football anyone?

Anyone up for some fantasy (American) football? My clanmates are trying to get a game going soon and we're short 5 people so if anyone would like to join us either reply to this post or PM me on YouTube.

Barney's Mind - Episode 11

YouTube - Barney's Mind - Episode 11

Sorry it took me a little longer than normal (and also a little longer than I said it would) and the vacation I took didn't help the release time either. Oh well, here it is, I think this is one of my best ones and I hope you agree.

P.S. Just ordered some paintball gun accessories and some vinyl dye so I can paint my gun (that super-soaker red just sucks). I'll post some more stuff as it progresses.

Counter Strike Clan

Well, someone asked me to make a post about the Counter Strike clan I'm in so I figured I might as well since there's not really much to say other than it's the most awesome clan that I've ever been in!

Some stuff about the vacation

Anyway, first off, I'll get back to working on Barney's Mind - Episode 11 right away, should have it out by the end of the week (if not sooner).

So, back from vacation. It was the most fun I've had in a very long time, hell even the 5 hours in a bus and then 7 hours in a car wasn't so bad because on the bus I read (and finished) a really good book and then the car ride I got to hang out and chat with my pal {cDS} Zarcon.

This was the first time I've gone to this clan outing and it was so much fun to meet all these people who I know but have never actually met in person. A whole bunch of really awesome people. We had tons of fun playing horseshoes, pool, cards, paintball, and so on. Plenty of drinking too but I think most people wanted to avoid the hangovers so they could play paintball.

Speaking of paintball, one of the clan members {cDS} GroundXero is really into paintball and he sponsored a competition for a $100 paintball gun and a full paintball kit and I won! Totally sweet, I'm so stoked cause after playing paintball at the outing I can say I'm hooked. It was a ton of fun and I plan on doing it a lot more.

Here's the gun I won:

Anyway, I'll probably make another post with more stuff later but for now have a video of the event:

2009 Cyber Death Squad Outing

Monday, August 10, 2009

I'm scared to check my email...okay, here goes...

170 messages!!!! (actually that's less than I thought I would get)

Anyway, woot, I'm back. I'll make a post later tonight about my vacation but I will say that it was FREAKING awesome.

P.S. I also won a $200 paintball kit, YAR!

Episode 11 raw footage

YouTube - Episode 11 Raw Footage is out. Go there and suggest dialog and stuff.

Anyway, going on vacation in two days, see you all when I get back!

EDIT: Yeah, this episode is going to be amazing. I had already thought of a million jokes for this one (strangely a lot of you guys thought of the same lines as I did) but some people thought of some really good ones that I hadn't thought off at all. Yeah, this next episode is going to be quite the good one. I'm going to try to get a trailer up for it tonight so that you have something to make you go crazy until I get back.

P.S. If I leave for a day or two I get about 50 messages. I wonder if I'll break my email with the amount of messages I'm going to get when I come back from vacation. :D

New podcast pilot

So, did another pilot podcast with Janet from San Diego a few days ago and here it is for your listening pleasure. I wanted to keep this podcast short(er) but that kind of failed.

I'm not really sure if I like these podcasts, I've done one other pilot podcast since the first one a while back and I just can't seem to be making any headway, they just don't seem that entertaining to me. Maybe this won't work out, I just can't seem to compare it to some of the other podcasts I listen too such as this one:

Matt, Yug and Yahtzee talk about recent and upcoming games

Anyway, here it is: Insert Title Here - Pilot Episode

P.S. Sorry about the hum in the background, Janet had her fan on and I just couldn't edit it out that well.

Barney's Mind - Episode 10 Part 2

YouTube - Barney's Mind - Episode 10 Part 2

There we go. Oh, and just so you guys know I'm going on a 5 day vacation starting next Wednesday. I'm going to try to finish episode 11 before I leave but no promises.

Some stuff

So, I've finished part 1 of episode 10, had some hitches in the dialog but I got it all worked out so part 2 should be done very soon. Just wondering though, would you guys like to have part 1 now and part 2 later or would you rather have them both at the same time?

I'm bored now

Well, someone knocked out the power to my office and, as I'm the only one here, and now without any computers (except my laptop on which I am writting), any work (hopefully autosave worked), any lights, or any internet radio, I'm bored. So, I figured I'd rant about this until something happens.

Oh, here we go, I went out side after the second flicker and heard a transformer pop and now there's a bunch of firetrucks and cop cars driving by. Guess someone hit a pole just around the corner.

And now the firetrucks are coming back, guess it wasn't that bad.

YAY! I have power back now I....can....go....back to work....blah.

P.S. I remember when a power outage at school was awesome because if it was out for more then an hour or two we all went home (usually due to cold weather outside and no heaters). But then I went to college and whenever the power went out we all just had to squint harder at our textbooks and notes and hope our laptop battery didn't die so we could keep playing internet poker instead of learning about differential equations. Ahh, good times.

P.P.S. Oh, and I found this randomly on wikipedia. It's from the book "Bored of the Rings" and if you're a Lord of the Rings book fan (you movie people probably wont find it as funny) and you've spent hours following the characters on the not so legible Tolkien maps (thank god for the Atlas of Middle Earth) then you should also have tears of laughter running down your face from this map:

Barney's Mind - Episode 10 Raw Footage

Episode 10 raw footage is out, I figured I haven't put anything out there for dialog suggestions so here you go. I didn't want to cut anything from this one so the time went over 10 minutes, thus I split it into two parts.

Anyway, knock yourselves out:

Alice and Kev

I stumbled upon this earlier today and just read through it and am awestruck and stunned by it.

Alice and Kev is a story about a homeless daughter and her abusive angry father set in the game Sims 3. I must say, this story almost brought me to tears and the originality combined with the fact that it appears that the majority of the events are game driven just astounds me.

Anyway, I could go on and on gushing about this but I'll simply say that you should read it. The story is only about a month old so there's not much to catch up on if you're worried about that. Also, I must say, this story has brought about more emotion in me then about 90% of the movies and books I watch and read, I simply can't wait to see what happens next.

Alice and Kev - The Beginning

Note: while there are some happy spots this is (so far) a very sad story, you have been warned.

Fixed the glitch, it was fraps being stupid and I just had to reinstall. Anyway, Episode 10 proceeding as normal.

Shephard's Mind vs Barney's Mind

YAR! Check out this awesome crossover of me into Shephard's Mind: Shephard's Mind - Episode 12

Heh, you'll have to wait to my finale to see my side of it (it happens later in my series because Opposing Force takes place a while after the events of Blue Shift).

Barney's Mind - Episode 10 stuff

So, Episode 10 is taking a large amount of time due to two things. First off I had to setup fraps and steam and Blue Shift and everything. Oh, and before I forget, since I had to find the command again here is the command to hide the HUD in opposing force and blue shift: drawhud 0

Anyway, so then I skipped to the yard level and then realized that I had no weapons so I cheated to get all the weapons but that gives you ALL the weapons so I then had to empty the ammo out of all of them. BLARG! What a pain that was.

This brings me to the other thing; I did all the filming, started editing and combining things and got to the point where I was going to do dialog as well as post the raw footage but I realized that there was something wrong about the footage. I finally realized that the audio was a little off, it sounded very "tinny" like I was hearing things through a tin can. At that point I had to go to bed for work in the morning but I think either fraps or my sound card is messing things up. I'll do some test recordings and hopefully get this fixed right away but it's looking like episode 10 might not be done until the end of the week.

EDIT: WEEEeeeeeeee COFFfffeeeee!!!

DOUBLE EDIT: Edge loaded concrete footings are evil, I say we just get some level 30 titans and stick them in the ground and tell them to hold up this building.

Ross Scott does interview with Podcast 17

Ross Scott and Craig Mengel (and a ton of others) get interviewed on Podcast 17 (link)

I had an issue with skipping around on the podcast, anyone else have this bug? Anyway, the interview starts around the 50 minute mark.

EDIT: Oh, here you go: direct link to just the interview only: interview

EDIT AGAIN: Well, after listening to it I had quite a few thoughts. First off I was surprised at how similar my thoughts on the design process are when compared to Ross Scott's, especially on how we come up with dialog for the episodes. Second, I'm glad someone mentioned the Freeman's Mind spinoffs (Shephard's Mind and Barney's Mind) and I was surprised to hear the Ross not only hadn't seen them but didn't really want to (whist citing that he doesn't really like watching his own episodes, which I completely understand).

Anyway, cool interview, way too long though. Oh well, it gave me something to listen to at work.

Podcast guest host?

Nevermind, I had a bit here about being a guest host but my old college roomate and I are going to do one. However, I'm still looking for interested people so if you want to audition to be on the podcast message me on YouTube and I'll send you the details.

Anyway, it looks like this is going to become a regular project and will probably be something that I'll do during and after Barney's Mind. I'm hoping after I get the podcast routine down that I'll setup a website for all this.

Ack, delay

Well, my computers been long due for a reformat, lots of stuff going wrong but I've managed to muscle through it for over a year now.

No more, steam finally died to a corrupted file that my computer is now refusing to delete or have anything to do with whilst citing a cyclic redundancy check error. So, yay, I guess I'll be spending this weekend reformatting and such, go me.

Podcast Pilot

Podcast Pilot

Podcast tentatively titled Games, Movies, TV and Stuff and will be a podcast about entertainment events and occasionally some other stuff that we find interesting.

Hosts: Ian 'Pirate' Riley and Dylan 'Trekkie' Riley
Music: On Your Own - By Mossback (used under Creative Commons license)

So, here's the podcast pilot. Note the word 'pilot'. It is rough and designed for us (and you) to figure out what works and what doesn't. So, please comment on what you liked, what you didn't like, and what you think we could do that could make it better.

Here's somethings that I noticed that I'm going to do:
  • I sound too cheerful all the time, I need to have some more emotional variety.
  • Better sound setup, too quiet a recording so I had to up the volume giving it a background hum.
  • Better stuff to talk about, stuff that's more interesting like reviews and such.
  • A little more structure (but I want to keep it all unscripted).
  • Also, a little more point and counter point, me and Dylan agreed on things a little too much.
So, this is Episode 0 and we'll take any feedback we get and hope to produce a premier episode soon for your enjoyment.

P.S. Not that anyone cares but there's a new Freeman's Mind out: FM - Episode 12

So, I'm thinking I might start doing podcasts as well as blogs as well as Barney's Mind. I'm not really sure what I'm going to talk about, probably games, work, news, and other things. I'll do a pilot one tonight with my brother (who's going to be chilling with me at my apartment) and we'll see if you people like it. It's going to be a LOT more structured than the live Q&A.

Oh, and Barney's Mind - Episode 10 (or episode 1010 in binary) will be out soon. My brother hanging with me for a bit and some minor car repairs and the new Harry Potter movie are probably going to get in the way a bit but, not to fear, I should have it out either thursday or friday (with the usual disclaimer of no promises).

Other news, not sure if I posted this here, I got my car back, doesn't need a new tranny yet but it may soon so I'm going to drive it until it dies, could be 2 months or 2 years and I'm obviously hoping for the latter. Also, finishing up a major project at work, cool beans there. Ummmm, not much else to report, things have been quite busy but at the same time quite boring so the only other thing I can think to put here is a little rant to my local supermarket. Damn you people for giving me stale bread that lasted all of 3 days before molding, I know it happens but, grrrr and stuff (dammit, I can't really be mad at them, I used to work for them and I know how retail is).

AHNSJHCXCASL:KL:KL:K!!!!!![insert strangled noise here]

Okay, that was crazy in a hat but it was fun...yes, I will keep telling myself that. So, I said I'd have the audio up tonight but I was hoping I wouldn't have to edit it. Hah, not a chance, so much mindless noise and chatter and useless stuff that I'm going to edit out. Might take me a bit.

In any case, it was fun and I wouldn't mind doing it again but, for the love of god, we are going to do smaller groups next time, if at all. That was way too chaotic. Oh well, it worked out pretty good and I think you guys may like it.

Q&A! First come, first served.

Post your Skype name (listed at the top of the Skype screen) in the comments. I will invite people to the Skype conference in the order listed here. The Q&A is 8 PM EDT tomorrow (EDT is GMT minus 4 hours). Note, if you are not on at 8 PM EDT tomorrow then I will skip your name. If it fills up before you get on you will lose your place. We had 34 people said they would come in the polls so in all likelyhood it will be full quite quickly.

Oh, and one thing I will mention, since this is Skype, everyone will be able to talk, this is fine, I want everyone to be able to laugh, chat, joke, whatever. However, if you're being annoying or not letting anyone speak or anything like that then you will be booted from the Q&A. Also, note that with this many people things like breathing into a mic and such will make things VERY loud. Please, if you have a mic famialize yourself with the audio input volume feature. It can be accessed it skype by clicking on the icon of a headset in the lower, righthand corner.

You can download Skype here:

Barney's/Shephard's Mind Q&A

Okay, so it looks like the Q&A will be Monday, the 13th, 2009 at 8 PM EDT.

KrimsinYT should be there as will I. We will be doing this over the Skype service, you can download the client here:

Skype just came out with a new client, not sure what they changed but to make sure there are no conflicts I suggest we all download the new client (version 4.1) if you already have Skype. Once you've downloaded Skype it's an easy install and account creation process and you're all set to talk to people over the net. If you have any questions just ask me and I can help you out.

Now, for the Q&A you will NOT need a mic, so don't worry about that, you can ask questions over the chat feature on skype and we will read them outloud.

To join the Q&A I'm going to setup a conference call. To do this, I will need your Skype name (it's listed at the very top of the Skype window if you forget it). However, as we're doing this first come first served what were going to do is on sunday at 8 PM EDT I'm going to create a post on here and you guys should reply to it with your Skype name. This list will be the order that I contact people for the Q&A and invite them to the Q&A conference call. If for some reason you're not on when the Q&A starts I'll skip you and go to the next person in line. Also, if someone leaves during the Q&A and doesn't say that they will be right back then I will fill their spot with the next person in line.

Now, we should have just the right amount of space in the conference call (24 people) but if that isn't enough then people will have to wait for someone to leave the Q&A or for the recorded audio, which should be out almost imediately after the Q&A.

Anyway, I know this is a little complex, sorry about that. Hopefully it will all go smoothly and we'll all have a good time. Oh, and I'll probably be logging into Skype a little early on Monday to get everything setup and to help anyone having problems joining. However, I highly reccomend that you use Skype at least once before the Q&A to make sure everything works right.

Anyway see you all Monday.

Q&A and contest

Sooooooooo, after lots of thinking I've decided that I'm going to do a new title and put it on all of the new videos from this point on. I just don't like the title, it was done in half an hour over a lunch break at work. However, I figured that rather then me do a new title I thought it would be fun to make a little contest out of it!

There is a great image of the 3 Barney's face on, as you might tell I used the center one for my original logo.

However, I suggest people try things different, you don't just have to do the while background with the black silhouette of Barney's head. Do whatever you think would make a cool logo as long as you leave me space for the title and the episode number. If you don't have Photoshop try, it's a good Photoshop substitute.

Anyway, to submit just upload it to any photo sharing site such a,,, or whatever. Send me the link through a PM on either here (if you want other people to see it) or on YouTube. The winner, chosen by me, will have their logo posted at the start of every episode from now on, as well as any episode I re-do later, and will have their name (real if you desire or username) put into the credits. Contest closes wednesday of next week at 6 PM EDT.

Here is a concise version of the contest:
  1. Make a Barney's Mind Title, doesn't have to look like Freeman's Mind title if you don't want it too. Make whatever you think would be cool.
  2. Include a spot for text (but please don't put any text in there)
  3. Image size: 640x480
  4. Format: Any
  5. How to submit: upload to anywhere on the internet and send me a link by PM or comment
  6. Prize: I'll use it and you get in the credits of BM
  7. Due date: Wednesday the 15th by 6 PM EDT (the time can be fudged a bit)
  8. Other: DO NOT use copyrighted or other peoples material in making the title, it has to be 100% your work (unless you have permission of course).
So, have fun with that, I look forward to the submissions. I will of course make a blog showing the winner and any honerable mentions. Also, if it ends up a tie where I can't decide which to use I'll run the tie-breaker as a public poll on this blog.

Now, the Q&A is all but set for Monday next week at 8 PM EDT (I can make it later or earlier if this works better for people). It will probably go for a half hour to an hour depending on how much fun we're having. It will be done over Skype (which can be downloaded for free) using the conference call feature. I'm going to work out the details of how you guys will join in and what will happen if we have more people then can fit in the conference call (24 people max). Also, of course, I will record it and post it for all to see.

EDIT: Oh, and here's my Skype name if anyone wants to chat it up sometime: tehmightypirate

I'm usually on every night around 6 pm.

Live Q&A stuff

So, if KrimsinYT comes to join us it looks like the Q&A will be either monday or tuesday of next week. If KrimsinYT doesn't come then it will be this friday.

Now, I've figured out how to record sound using skype but the problem is that it only allows 10 people in a conference call. Suck, that's no good. So, I'm wondering if anyone knows of another way I could do VOIP with something other than skype.

I was thinking of running a vent server off of my PC but, assuming we have 50 or so people, I doubt my 7Mbps internet will be able to handle the load with any decent quality.

We could do the skype thing and have once someone asks a question they leave but that doesn't seems fun (though I will of course record and post the Q&A for those who miss it) but I guess it's a good fall back.

Anyway, any ideas?

EDIT: I may have found a solution. Using an internet radio authoring program called SHOUTcast. Basically Krimsin and I would do a skype chat but I would have a dummy account listening in recording the audio as well as streaming it live to the internet. You guys would access it like any other internet radio (through something like windows media player or winamp).

Anyway, so I'm going to look into this more and I'm going to try a test run soon and I could use a few people to help me out to make sure it works and to try to work out any bugs. Oh, and I set up a poll to see how many people are going to actually be there asking questions. For this poll lets assume that it's going to be monday at 8 PM EDT.

EDIT AGAIN: Stupid internet, apparently Skype used to allow only 10 people in a conference call but I just checked and the current version allows up to 24 people. That should be plenty and anyone who gets left out will have to just wait for the recording.

Barney's Mind - Episode 9

YouTube: Barney's Mind - Episode 9

Yay, it's out! I started using an actual audio program for this one so now I can do pitch changes and such and so on. I'm still learning but you might already be able to tell that the audio quality was a little better in this one. Also, using an actual audio program(s) allows me to combine multiple sound tracks into one and to do echo effects and the like so that makes things easier.

Other things, I found this episode to be kind of hard to make funny. There really wasn't many opportunities to make any good jokes. I dunno, it's good though, kind of an action episode.

Anyway, the music is Revival by Orgy.

Minor delay

Well, two things happened today. First, my brother and family were here and invited me out to movie and dinner and then fireworks (which actually happened here despite the rain) so that cut into a lot of the time I had for BM.

I would have been fine though as I was planning on doing BM in the morning but my laptop died on me. It doesn't have any BM stuff on it but I used it a lot for work so I wanted to find out what was wrong so that I can get it fixed before monday.

So, these combined meant I didn't get any work done today. I'm working on it right after this and may have it out by late tonight but no promises.

Other stuff: fireworks were awesome, best ones they've had up here in years. Also, my laptop seems to have a bad power adapter. It's only putting out something like 11V but it should be putting out 19V. I have a backup AC adapter but it's old and only works about 30% of the time. I disassembled the laptop to make sure it was not anything internal but everything checkout fine in there and the solder points on the DC plug were all fine and the battery is working OK (or at least as OK as a 3 year old laptop battery). I think I missed a plug putting it back together cause now it boots to a BIOS error but I'll deal with that after I finish BM.

Anyway, happy 4th of July for the US people out there. For everyone else, happy Saturday. Oh, and as KrimsinYT (I spelled it right this time) pointed out to me, happy belated Canada day for you too.

Barney's Mind - Episode 9 footage out

Sorry it's out so late. To get it out sooner I'm going to start working on the dialog ASAP so submit dialog suggestions quickly.

Anyway, to mark getting 20,000 views on episode 1 I'm going to be doing a live Q&A session so stay tuned for details regarding that, I'm probably going to be doing it some time next weekend but I've setup a poll for the day people think it would be best to do it. I'm going to do it at 8 PM in the evening EST so that should give both sides of the continent plenty of time to ask stuff (sorry Europe but I think you're getting the short end of the stick here).

Anyway, it will probably be over something like skype and will be first come, first served. We'll probably do it for about a half hour or so. I'll record it and post it online for anyone who misses it.

Barney's Mind - The Final Episode Teaser

Here you go:

Barney's Mind - The Final Episode Teaser

I've set it to be released sometime near the end of this year if not sooner.

Also, episode 9 should be coming out very soon, like the end of this week or so.

Some images from the beginning are from the Black Mesa mod.
The music is Fahrenheit (Choir) by Immediate Music (AKA: Globus)
The footage in the second half is from Microsoft Flight Simulator X

[insert random junk about what I'm doing/watching/reading/listening too]

Monday, June 29, 2009

Weeeeeeeeeee! I like coffee.

I hardly ever drink it after curing my addiction to it back in college but, every once and a while I have a cup or two and weeeeeeeeee! So much energy. Love this stuff.

Annnnnnnnyway. Hulu, cool stuff getting added on there if you haven't been there in a while. A friend of mine pointed me to the movie Virtuality and I only got about half way through it before Left 4 Dead interupted me but it was really good what I saw, can't wait to finish it. I'm gathering there's something the movie isn't telling me but we'll see.

So, episode 9, going to try to get it about 90% done tonight. I should have the footage posted tonight as well on the screening room.

Oh, yeah, about that. So, it seems that a big part of the fans enjoy suggesting dialog as well as seeing the dialog used. Therefore, I'm going to continue doing what I've been doing with a minor change. Before I used about 75% of the dialog suggested but I'm going to cut that down to about 25%-35% and do the rest myself.

Also, I'm considering getting a teaser trailer up for the final episode of Barney's Mind which, while being a few months away, I'm really, really excited for. It's going to be a half hour episode split into 3 parts so it's going to be a fairly long production time and will involve a few more voice actors and some pretty interesting stuff including a bit involving KrimsonYT from Shephard's Mind. So, would you guys be interested in a teaser trailer? Do I even need to ask such a silly question?

Anyway, I have to run to grab some lunch but I wanted to let you guys know that I found a spot where Ross Scott could (VERY briefly) appear in Barney's Mind with almost no effort on his part so I'm going to ask him to do that. It would be an exclusive line that wouldn't appear in his Freeman's Mind so, yeah, that would be awesome. I'll let you know if he agrees to it.

Speed Racer and stuff

Just ranting here, nothing about Barney's Mind.

Anyway, I just watch the movie speed racer. My brother saw it when it first came out and he didn't really like it so I started it with a attitude of "why the hell did I rent this?"

Anyway, so I started watching it and didn't take it seriously at all. I've never seen the cartoon so I don't know how that is but, I must say, you can't take this movie seriously. Given that, I found that I really liked it. Not like, OMG best movie ever, not even a movie I'd want to rent a second time but I found it to be really funny and crazy. It's just so stupid it works.

I dunno, if you're looking for a movie that's fun to watch with some mates and make fun of the whole way then this is a good one.

Now, I'm a big fan of the Wachowski brothers and this film just continues my belief that those guys eat win for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I mean, none of their movies are perfect by far (matrix trilogy ending sucks, V for Vendetta wasn't their idea so no credit there, and this was just stupidly fun) but I honestly like everything they make, can't wait to see what they have next.

Anyway, rock on people.

...okay, fine, Barney's Mind stuff. KrimsonYT is alive and well, talked with him earlier, Barney's Mind - Episode 9 will be coming sometime next week, and I emailed Ross Scott asking him his thoughts on Barney's Mind, stay tuned for that. YAR!

Thursday, June 25, 2009

So, after you've all (hopefully) watched episode 8 I have a question.

This is the first episode since episode 3 that I've done by myself and I think it came out quite well.

My question is this, do you feel I should continue with the screening room asking for viewer generated comments or should I got on by myself from here? Or, I could try a combination, taking only a few viewer comments and doing the rest myself, what do you think? I've set up a poll for you guys to vote with.

Still working

Episode 8 is progressing nicely.

In the meantime, not sure if anyone has noticed in my favorites is an avatar fan movie and I am a huge avatar fan (even though I'm 23). I usually don't like anything Nickelodeon makes but avatar is great in that, while being aimed at a younger audience, it was/is quite mature and had a lot of good themes. It reminded me of a lot of anime's rather than a nick cartoon.

Anyway, so if you like Avatar: The Last Airbender or if you don't like it or even if you've never heard of it, you should at least watch this trailer:

I'm excited, it's described as Avatar mixed with the matrix and lord of the rings. Oh, and this is part 1 of 3 and they are going to basically be redoing the series. So many good movies coming out this summer and next summer is looking just as good.

Anyway, just wanted to mention that, now back to working on episode 8.

Monday, June 22, 2009

I has it.

Barney's Mind - Episode 8 trailer

YouTube - Barney's Mind - Episode 8 trailer

Yay! See, I told you I'd make up for taking so long on episode 7. Anyway, in other news, still no net, hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week but, honestly, I don't really care that much because without net I have less distractions and can do more Barney's Mind stuff.

Anyway, episode 8 coming soon, probably early this week.

Barney's Mind - Episode 7

YouTube - Barney's Mind - Episode 7

....yeah, sorry about that, a little excited about the 200,000 emails I'm sure I'm about to get from YouTube regarding episode 7.

Episode 8 is already on it's way. I'm probably not going to upload the raw footage for ep 8 and just go solo on this so that I can get it done faster (hopefully I've matured enough in my humor that it should still be good, I think I have).

Friday, June 19, 2009

Guess what! The thing I found online about unpluging the network worked, I can now get into offline mode on steam. YAY! Ep 7 coming ASAP!

Also, by going from window to window in my apartment I managed to find an unsecured router with internet. It's got low signal strength but it holds a connection long enough for me to do things like write this. YAY!

Anyway, I am now off to make ep 7 and I'm going to do nothing else until I have it finished. Hopefully that means I might even have it up tomorrow!

I hope you're as excited as I am. Trailer coming soon (assuming I can hold this connection long enough to get a video up to YouTube. Maybe I'll run down to McDonald's and hit up their wi-fi if not).

SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK (and did I mention this sucks).

I have internet, or at least I should, but my router is having problems connecting and they think its a timeout error with their equipment which will require a guy to come from them to my apartment. However, the said it will take up to two to three business days to get a guy out here so that means that it could be tuesday of next week when I have internet which means ep 7 will be (hopefully) released next week.

The pirate is not pleased.

Here fairpoint, I made you a new logo:

EDIT: OH! I think I found a way to get steam into offline mode. I was just browsing around and stumbled upon someone saying that sometime if you just have a LAN connection to the computer steam will try to update and not go into offline mode. He said that by removing the network steam will recognize that there is no interwebs and will default to offline mode which SHOULD work for me. SO! Let's hope that I can get through and run Blue Shift and then I can actually do this!!!

Oh, and for anyone who loves epic rock and/or Serj Tankian (Singer from System of a Down) then check this out and watch it 20 times like I did:

I'm not really one to get excited about music but I can honestly say that I can't wait for this album, it sounds amazing. I love Serj Tankian and I love epic rock (globus, within temptation, etc) and so this is like a dream come true for me.

Camp Pictures

There you go:

And one in predator vision mode (because photoshop is fun):

I don't care for living in Maine most of the time but, damn, we have some nice scenery. The pics kinda don't do it justice. If you go to the shore to the right is a nice rock beach and to the left is a shear hill full of pine trees. Yeah, that was probably a $300,000 camp.

Quicker update

So, got home yesterday and I had [drumroll that trails off] no internet...

SO! I called the customer service place but then realized that it was 5:45 and they closed at 5:30 (though apparently their tech support place was open but I didn't have that number).

ANYWAY! I just called them during my lunch break at work and they told me that everything was on and has been since yesterday so apparently it's a technical issue. Oh well, that honestly makes me feel better because I'm sure it's just some stupid setting on their end or mine (though I don't see how, I've gone over the router settings and everything is as it should be).

Oh well, but the good news is I do indeed have internet, the bad news is that I didn't get any work done on ep 7 yesterday, the good news is I shall still have it done by friday night if all goes well so I can still maintain my promise to have ep 7 by this week.

Hmmm, I guess that wasn't that quick, oh well.

Oh, and yesterday I got do some surveying for this guy in northern Maine who needs to move his camp and it was GORGEOUS! Simply one of the best days ever and the lakeside camp scenery just made it 10,000 times better. I would have done that job for free it was so nice. I have pictures too, I'll post them if anyone feels like being jealous.

P.S. I JUST BOUGHT A 1000W SOUND SYSTEM! Noise complaints here I come!

Quick update

Yeah, called them this morning as I left for work and (after a relatively brief 15 minutes of hold music) I got someone who said my interwebs were being installed as we spoke. Nice. So, assuming they aren't lying bastards then I should have net when I get home which means I should have Barney's Mind done in 2 days, that's assuming I don't finish it tonight (unlikely).

After that I'm going to bang out ep 8 and 9 to make up for this ridiculous long delay.

Oh, and children, the moral of this story is, before you move, give the utility companies at least 1 month of heads-up rather than 1 week.

Friday, June 12, 2009

So, I worked from home yesterday so that I could be there when the Fairpoint guy shows up and, long story short, he didn't show up. So I called them and they said that they would get a guy out to me first thing this morning. Fine, whatever. Thankfully they FINALLY made good on something they said and a guy showed up (an hour late but whatever).

So, I now have [drumroll] PHONE! Wait? Phone? What? WHERE'S MY INTERNET! IT'S GOING TO TAKE 2 MORE DAYS!??!? ...... Ok, calm down...not getting mad at the poor repair guy...

Okay, I'm better now. Anyway, so I have phone and I have a DSL signal to the router but it still has to be set that this is the number for me to get internet at and not my old place. Okay, at least this is something easy that shouldn't be too hard for them to do right and on time.

Now, seeing as this is a Barney's Mind blog I suppose I should let you know how this impacts Barney's Mind and, it doesn't! Yay. Yeah, I was planning on going home for the next two days so I wouldn't have done any work on it anyway. I was hoping to work on it thursday after my internet was installed and then finish it sunday but it looks like now I'll start on it sunday and then I'll finish it sometime during the week. But, anyway, I'm still on track to finish Ep 7 by sometime next week.

P.S. Fairpoint is such a messed up company. While the guy was there he had to wait about 10 minutes to setup the phone because Fairpoints own phone system was down. Yes, the telephone company was having phone problems, wow. Also, he said that he recently had to take leave because of job stress which he told me was due to him getting sweared at all day by customers because some of them had been waiting 4 months for phone and internet to be installed. However, Fairpoint screwed up the leave and they didn't pay him for the 4 weeks he was off. Oh well, he told me that he finally got paid last week and he said it was pretty cool, it was like saving 4 weeks of pay.

Barney's Mind - Q&A

So, here's the questions and answers thing I promised. It went over 10 minutes so I split it into two parts. I am now crossing my fingers hoping that I will have internet tomorrow and, as soon as I do, I will jump right on episode 7 and may even have it out this week if I really dive right into it.

Barney's Mind - Q&A Part 1
Barney's Mind - Q&A Part 2

[In Professor Farnsworth voice]Good news everybody!

I just got a call from Anita at Fairpoint and she managed to bump me up to this thursday, which is good enough. So, I shall have internet soon which means Barney's Mind shall be soon (but probably not till next week).

So, yeah, YAY.

In the mean time I guess I can play some of those Wii games that people got me last Christmas that I've only put like 2 hours into.

WTF Fairpoint?

So, got home, no internet, no phone. I am currently on the phone at work with Fairpoint trying to sort this mess out. GRRRRRRR. More info as I get it.

Update: OMG! I am pissed!!! They're telling me that they can't get it done till tuesday OF NEXT F-ING WEEK!!!!!! AHGGAG!&!!*!!! I'm waiting for their supervisor to call me back so that I can rip him/her a new asshole. I mean, this is rediculous! I had the move order put in over 2 weeks ago and this is the 3rd delay I've had. Hell, if I called ANYONE else I could have had internet installed by now.

Hell, I'm so pissed I'm going to ask to be bumped up or have a month free or something or I'm cancelling my service and going to switch over to cable internet. I don't really need a phone, I have a cell phone, the only reason I kept the phone is because they gave me a good deal on it.

So, unless something changes I'm not going to have any Barney's Mind or anything done for a very long time.

Another update: So, I've downloaded all the comments pages so I will be able to post a FAQ and fan mail video cause I don't need the net to do that. I'll upload that when I get to work tomorrow.

Also, this was JUST uploaded to and I stumbled upon it. I think they're making fun of me:

I'm back!

Okay, so first off, I got zero work done on episode 7 due to the fact that steam decided that working in offline mode was for losers and that I needed to update steam. Kinda hard to update with no interwebs so, yeah. Played lots of single player games though and I got about 90% moved in. Also went to a rock concert and did some other stuff.

Anyway, so I still didn't have internet when I left my apartment this morning but that's okay, they said it probably wouldn't be on till sometime between 3-5 pm today. So, HOPEFULLY I'll have 'net when I get home and I will jump right on EP 7 and hopefully have that out soon.

In other news, this is what happens when I don't have internet for a weekend:

Yeah, 61 emails, about 2/3 of them youtube. lol, took me about half an hour just to read them all and respond to a few.

Oh, and to Janet and anonymous, that was pretty funny your little discussion. Also, are you kidding, I'm not pissed cause now I have something to watch during my lunch break.

Shephard's Mind - Episode T$*&@*#!

Okay, so not much else to say. If all goes well I should have the preliminary version of BM - Ep 7 done tonight so I'm thinking Wednesday for a release date. I'll put a trailer up tonight too. Rock on people.

P.S. I just hit 10,000 views on episode 1 and feel like doing something special for my fans, any ideas of what I should do?

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Oh you got to be kidding me.

Stupid Fairpoint. They messed up my moving order so, long story (mostly involving hold music) short, I wont have internet or phone or anything until monday of next week.

However, this shouldn't impact Barney's Mind as long as I can still get Blue Shift to work in the offline mode I shouldn't have a problem making the next episode.

Oh, and in other news, Left 4 Dead 2 has been announced. Are you excited? I know I am. Oh, to you people who say "this is too soon" then I honestly don't understand what you're talking about I would rather they throw a full dev team at L4D2 and get it to where L4D should be right now rather then have 2 years of slow, semi-minor updates that apparently wouldn't be able to do what they're doing in L4D2 anyway because L4D is so much more complex and integrated than other games like TF2.

Movings sucks

So, yeah, taking me a lot longer to unpack things, I think I've unpacked 2 boxes and my bed. Only 200,000,000,000,000 more boxes to go. Soooooo, no Barney's Mind for you (hell I don't even have internet at my place yet). Perhaps next week.

To hold you over there is a new Shephard's Mind out: Shephard's Mind - Episode 8

Friday, May 29, 2009

OMG!!! MOVING!!! ARG!!!!!!

...right then, don't expect me to exist anywhere but inside the confines of a U-hawl moving van (how is this a van, it's clearly a truck!) for the next 2-3 days.

In other news, I'm thinking of buying a new car (or probably a slightly used one). Anyone have a good manual tranny, mid-high performance, kick-ass looking, fun to drive but good safety car that they can suggest?

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Oh yeah...

...Barney's Mind - Episode 7 raw footage is out for dialog suggestions. Have at it.

Barney's Mind - Episode 6 (finally)

Barney's Mind - Episode 6 is out.

So, I left work early so that I could finish this for you guys. Oh, and yes I had the day off, I just went into work because I'm a good little slave. Those buildings won't design themselves you know.

Anyway, so after I finished this one I watched it a few times and I actually laughed at it. Now this may not seem like much but by the time I've finished an episode I've probably put about 6 hours of voice acting into it most of it involving some form of listening to myself talk. So, naturally any joke I make is so dead to me it not even close to funny. However, on this episode, each time I hear the line "did I just step on a Cheeto?" I laugh, which is awesome. So, if I can laugh at the same joke 20 times then I'm sure you guys will love this episode. Hoorah, I'm finally becoming good and this game.

In other news, moving next weekend, don't expect a Barney's Mind for at least 2 weeks.

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Soooo, yeah.

Soooo, yeah. Barney's Mind is progressing, I've got a preliminary audio done but there are a LOT of parts I need to go back and improve so, to keep some semblance of quality, I probably wont have episode 6 out till some time this week. I would have been done by now but moving plus work plus some car repairs got in my way. Oh, and by no means is this delay caused by the 5 hours I put into Counter-Strike, L4D, and TF2 on saturday. No. Not at all. SHUT UP, I'M MAKING IT!... okay

In other news, Shephard's Mind - Episode 7 is out. Damn, he's really beating me now.

Saturday, May 23, 2009

Grrrrr, so I installed teamspeak the other day for some of the online games I play with people and it seems to have screwed up my audio codecs so that now when I record the narration it comes out really crappy. Been struggling with this for over a day now and I can't seem to fix it. Really pissing me off. I've found the codecs that teamspeak installed and removed them but it still comes out crappy.

So, yeah, episode 6 will be delayed until I can fix this.

EDIT: Fix it (somehow) but it still may be delayed. We'll see.

Friday, May 22, 2009

...uick update. Just want to let people know that episode 6 is progressing but I couldn't manage to squeeze any work on it into yesterday. However, I will unexpectedly have part of saturday to work on it so it may come out saturday. I'm thinking though that monday evening when it will really come out though so don't get your hopes up.

Episode 6 progressing

Got the first bit of audio done for Episode 6 last night and I hope to get most, if not all of it done tonight. So, that leaves thursday for final edits and hopefully I will have this up friday evening. However, I'm gonna be out of town this weekend so if I don't finish it by friday then it might not be up until monday.

In the mean time have a LOLcat:

New Shephard's Mind episode.

Everybody's favorite masked crusader has a new episode out. No not batman you dork, Shephard.

Shephard's Mind - Episode 6 (damn, he's beating me)

So, yeah, KrimsinYT, is totally going to finish long before I ever get around to the BM end and years before Ross Scott ever finishes Freeman's Mind.

However, I've decided to give you guys a little preview of cool stuff to come. There will be a point in Barney's Mind/Shephard's Mind where Barney and Shephard do in fact talk to each other and it will be coordinated in both episodes. Thus, you will in fact be getting a preview of Barney's Mind and a callback to Shephard's Mind.

Also, I'm hoping that the ending of Barney's Mind may also have him meeting up with Shephard at the end. Not telling how this would happen but, it will (though Half Life purists will probably hate me forever for it). Well, I suppose I can give out a little hint:

Review of the movie: Star Trek

So, I promised a review of Star Trek and here it is:

Note: I have tried my damned hardest NOT to include spoilers in here. However, I can't help but give away tiny, unimportant details. If you haven't seen the movie and want to have a totally virgin experience then you better shut off you computer right now (oh, and don't read any online review or anything as there are so many spoilers out there, I'm glad I didn't look at them until after the movie).

So, without further ado:

Star Trek (2009): This movie opens with a bang and keeps on banging you like some punk beating a freshman's head against a locker (but in a good way). In brief this movie can be summed up with the following words: "woah! BOOM! VROOM! HAH! HAH again! HAH even more! ZIP! BOOM! BOOM some more! WEEEEE! PUNCH! KICK! ZOOM! BOOM! HAH! WEEEEE! Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap"

In less brief review, the film could be described as the best parts of Star Wars combined with the best parts of Star Trek combined with some great acting combined with excellent special effects all rolled up in a nice package that leaves you wanting more (without being too brief or sacrificing anything).

So, as you have no doubt noticed I have nothing but praise for this movie. Well, I suppose not nothing as I will point out a few flaws near the end but they're minor and more just nitpicking (what a funny word, and the origin is equally funny).

Anyway, the movie opens with a plenty of fun and you are right away drawn into the action. Yet, despite being action packed it also starts with mystery. Then on top of that you immediately get drawn into the characters and the first 15 minutes of the movie do a great job of shaping the characters (read: Kirk). Then, as more characters get introduced they get fleshed out in brilliant ways that really shape their personality. It's actually quite remarkable how well they've transformed the original characters into these new actors. In fact, it almost seemed that these actors were the original actors at times. What I mean with that is the new actors fit so well with the movie that when they did something new it fit. At the same time though, when they did a call-back to The Original Series (TOS) then it fit as well. About the only thing that came out as forced was Chekhov's forced W's instead of V's but this was so forced that it actually became funny in itself (though, thankfully he quickly toned it down and became quite a bit more understandable, cause his first few lines we're kinda hard to follow).

Oh, and I'm sure I'm not alone with this but anybody who watched the trailers and saw Kirk picking up Uhura in a bar, seeing her get undressed, seeing Spock fighting Kirk on the bridge, etc. and thought "oh no, this is going to be James Bond as James T. Kirk" then you will be happily disappointed. No, scratch that, you will not only be happily disappointed but you may hopefully, like me, find these scenes to fit so well with the themes of the movie. Kirk in the bar is a great scene that really sets up Kirk's life before joining Star Fleet, Uhura getting naked is totally plausible and really funny, Spock hitting Kirk is a big part of one of the films themes, and so on.

Some other things worth mentioning are the action is awesome and fast but is perfectly spaced out with bits of dialog and non-action plot development. The music score is amazing, I'm thinking of buying if it's available. The special effects rival Star Wars - Episode 3 and look incredible (Enterprise coming out of Titan's atmosphere is incredible and the battles look wonderful).

Now, for the die-hard trekkies out there, don't worry. First off, this film has ABSOLUTELY NO IMPACT ON STAR TREK CANNON. Now, I can't tell you how that is possible without giving away half the film but sufice it to say this is a clear reboot of the franchise while brilliantly maintaining the existing Star Trek universe (and even allowing for more shows/movies using the original Star Trek universe). Also, this while this movie is completely accessible by people who haven't seen Star Trek it will perhaps be enjoyed even more by the people who have seen Star Trek TOS (or even TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT). There are tons of call-backs to TOS, references to Spock on Romulus (TNG), and references to ENT (when you first see Scotty listen for the line about the Beagle and the transporter and catch the Admiral's name).

However, there are a few things that trekkies might not like. The big one being the enterprise's changes. First off, it's quite different on the outside but I think this looks good. About the only thing I didn't like was the nacelles, they looked a little off. But I still got used to this. Other things that kinda seemed off were the fact that everything seemed to have some kind a plasma propulsion engine at end of the nacelles which isn't really correct with Star Trek cannon but whatever. Also, the bridge is very different but it's all good in my mind. The only weird thing is the viewscreen isn't a screen but a window. WHY WOULD YOU PUT A WINDOW IN THERE! UGH, that was just stupid, nobody in their right mind would have such a tempting target as the command center of a starship have something as vulnerable as a window. I know, I know they have force fields and such but, still, as an engineer I call foul. Lastly, the engineering sections of the Enterprise looks like a pulp mill (something I'm quite familiar with) and while most people seemed to hate this, I loved it. I looked so much how I would picture a huge starship being in the bowels of it. I mean, when it comes right down to it this makes so much more sense then hiding everything away in conduits. When stuff needs regular fixing you leave everything open and exposed. The new Enterprise reflects this by showing 'steel' beams everywhere (but rivets? Engineering foul again, we haven't used riveted beams since the 30's-40's), pipes big and small, ducts, wires, etc. All this interspersed with futuristic control panels and what not. Though you never actually got to see the warp core (or cores, you'll see what I mean. Though, a thought just occurred to me, perhaps what they eject is not the core but rather the anti-matter containment and storage devices, that would make a lot more sense).

So, yeah, all good there in my mind. So, now for the few flaws. First off, the only gaping plot hole I found was at the end history has been altered but why then did they not go back and change history back? I guess they figured it might make things worse blah, blah, blah, but that never seemed to stop Star Trek before? Oh well.

Then there was the bit with the Enterprise being built in Iowa and I gotta call Star Trek foul, it was built in San Fransisco. That's stretching it though, aside from the above (and some physics fouls but that can be passed off) there were no major flaws. Heck, they even did somethings that only Firefly and a handful of other movies/shows have done, they had space be quiet. Well, not all the time, they did it only when it was really artistic but I thought this was a good trade off. It allowed them to have huge space explosions and such while still showing that if you perform an orbital jump all you're going to hear is your breathing.

So, anyway, I think I've said enough. I could go on for about 10 more paragraphs but anymore would just be silly. The final bit I can say is watch it then watch it again then take your girlfriend to watch it (quite girl friendly, not just a guy movie) then take your kids to watch it (I'd say as long as they are 10 years old it's appropriate but there are some scary monsters and some women in bras and lots of screaming and fighting and a woman giving birth and so on but I think it's all good) and then watch it one last time before it leaves the theater.

Movie of the year, all the way.
